Viral Respiratory Disease

Viral Respiratory Disease is the term for viral diseases of the respiratory systems that includes the lungs, pleural cavity, bronchial tubes, trachea, upper respiratory tract and of the nerves and muscles of breathing. Respiratory diseases range from mild and self-limiting such as the common cold to life-threatening. They are a common and important cause of illness and death.

The Trinity Biotech Bartels Viral Respiratory Screening and Identification Kit (VRK) allows the clinical laboratory through the use of high quality monoclonal reagents to detect the most common viral respiratory agents. Historically, three types of laboratory methods (direct detection, culture isolation/confirmation, serology) have been utilized in the diagnosis of viral infections. The VRK Kit utilizes the culture isolation/confirmation method for respiratory virus identification through the use of high quality immunofluorescent group and type specific monoclonal antibody reagents. In addition, performance characteristics for influenza A, influenza B, parainfluenza types 1 and 3, and RSV have been established for prepared direct patient specimens.
